Wynnum Esplanade Residence II

Our wonderful client has a keen interest in fishing and boating and has found a celebratory spot at the mouth of Wynnum Creek, just south of what was historically one of the larger Quandamooka Indigenous camps, cited as a base for fishing expeditions in search of dugong, flying fox and shellfish.

The historical Queenslander's solid timber structure has withstood the foreshore's buffeting wind and tides for over 100 years and relaxes back into the landscape now like a beach-goer on holiday.

Her grand internal volumes now capture and celebrate light due to the transformative power of a few cleverly plotted architectural interventions: replacing dark built-in verandah space with floor to ceiling glass + louvres, opening up the kitchen and dining areas, strategic skylights that illuminate bathing in the large internal bathroom.

With the charred black of shellfish and bright whitewash of local jetty's in mind, the neutral and minimal palette will ensure this grand lady's evolution for several new generations of families drawn by the sea.

Final photography and testimonial to come!
